Producing quality vegetables to support our local community.
About the past, present and future.
Klippingegård is a fourth generation farm located in the Stevns Kommune approximately one hour south of Copenhagen. The farm is owned and operated by William Perch-Nielsen.
After taking over the farm at a young age, William set to work at diversifying the farm’s offerings. Over the years he has continued working towards growing some of the season’s most anticipated crops like new potatoes, strawberries and asparagus. As for the colder months, you can find many different varieties of cabbages growing in the fields. Since William is keen to find out what grows best in our unique coastal climate here in Stevns, his quest to source old and sometimes forgotten varieties is an important part of the work done at Klippingegård. This approach has been pivotal to gain a unique insight into the farm’s own environment. It has incentivised us to use less and less conventional farming techniques and inputs, thus enabling us to move towards more wholesome growing methods.
Along with the unique climate, Stevns affords us with a rich, heavy soil structure that we feel offers its own “terroir” to the vegetables. It is also why rotation and ground cover is so important to us. These farming techniques help us to avoid compaction, improve water infiltration and prevent the degradation of our most precious of resources. This is why, for the past 15 years, Willian has been working with cover crops and regular rotation of crops. In this way the quality of soil is not only being sustained but in fact improved.
So where do we go from here?
In our opinion we are no doubt on the right track to where we need to be going. Klippingegård will continue to support diversity in the wild nature that resides on the farm, as well as in our integrated ideas, in order to continue cycling nutrients naturally and efficiently. In this way we can continue to produce the best quality produce we can for our family, friends and community.
We are happy to have you join us on our journey.
